Richard R. Carrillo has fourteen years of research experience in the fields of computational neuroscience and efficient network-simulation methods, with a main focus on real-time simulation of biologically-inspired neural networks and its application to robot control. More specifically, research has been performed on event-driven simulation schemes, cerebellar modeling and plasticity, network synchronicity, control of robotic arm trajectory and model-parameter optimization. On all these topics, research was performed at the model, algorithm and implementation levels. He is also interested in the implementation and simulation of retina models and their interface with related brain neural centers.

Richard R. Carrillo obtained an engineer’s degree in computer sciences at the University of Granada in 2002. Then, he has been working as a research assistant and postdoctoral fellow with grants or hired through competitive calls. He defended his thesis at the University of Cagliary (Italy) in 2008 and at the University of Granada. Most of the research has been performed in the context of European projects at the University of Granada and during a national grant at the University of Almeria (Spain). He has also industry research experience through several university-company contracts associated to 5 technological research projects. He implemented the initial version of the software project EDLUT, which is an efficient event-driven simulator for spiking neural networks now released as open software.

Keywords: . neuroscience, cerebellum, synaptic plasticity, robot control, neural modeling, spiking neuron, event-driven simulation, real time, retina.
